Using 7-Zip on Linux

Installing and using is a bit of a hassle if you aren’t familiar with it. This post aims to help with that.

To install 7-Zip, you need to get the p7zip-full package (Example for Debian-based systems):

apt update
apt install p7zip-full

To compress files or folders, run:

7z a -t7z Files.7z <files>

Or, if you want to use LZMA2 compression (called “Ultra” in the GUI variant), use:

7z a -t7z Files.7z -m0=lzma2 -mx=9 -aoa <files>

To decompress, use:

7z x Files.7z
